Fire damages Russian River vacation home
A vacation home caught fire Friday afternoon near Guerneville, destroying about half the house and causing an estimated $100,000 damage.
No one was home when the fire was reported around 12:30 p.m. at 11691 Highway 116 North, between Canyon and Tungstall drives.
The blaze destroyed two bedrooms, a bathroom and a covered patio area, according to Guerneville Fire Capt. Ryan Lantz.
He said the single-story home, probably built in the 1930s or 1940s, is just off the highway and used by a Bay Area family at various times of the year.
The cause of the fire was under investigation, “but I don’t think it was malicious,” he said.
Because there are no fire hydrants in the area, numerous departments with water tenders were on scene.
Other firefighters and equipment arrived from Forestville, Graton, Monte Rio and Cazadero.
