Every Californian age 6 months and older is encouraged to get a free COVID-19 vaccination as soon as possible, and there are many local pharmacies, clinics and health care providers currently offering vaccines.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommends only the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for children 6 months to 5 years old.
Shots are available at pharmacies including Safeway, CVS, Rite-Aid, Walmart and Costco. You can also call your health provider to check where shots are available.

What to know about booster shots
Residents age 5 and older who received two Pfizer vaccines are eligible to receive a booster five months after their second dose, and residents age 18 and older who received two Moderna vaccines are eligible to receive a booster five months after their second dose.
If you are 18 and older and received the Johnson & Johnson vaccine, you are eligible for a Pfizer or Moderna booster two months after the first dose.
The Food and Drug Administration has authorized a second booster dose of the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines for adults age 50 and older and certain immunocompromised individuals.
The CDC has approved mixing and matching COVID-19 vaccines. In other words, it is safe for residents to receive a different booster than their original two doses.
