A Lake County man was critically injured when his vehicle was struck head-on Thursday morning on a curve of Highway 29 near Calistoga, the CHP said.

Authorities said Hidden Valley Lake resident Brian Deutsch, 55, was not wearing a seat belt when his Honda Civic was hit by a car that swerved into his lane near the northern intersection of Old Lawley Toll Road at 6:18 a.m.

The other driver, Michael Perreault, 45, also of Hidden Valley Lake, was northbound in a Jeep Wrangler when he entered the curve, applied his brakes and lost control of the vehicle, the CHP said.

Perreault swerved into the southbound lane, striking the Honda with the left front part of his car. He suffered minor injuries, the CHP said.

Deutsch was taken to Queen of the Valley Medical Center in Napa and then to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, where he was listed in critical condition Thursday afternoon, a spokeswoman said.
