Lake County woman pleads guilty to felony perjury

Lake County prosecutors said Friday they’ve nailed another liar with their nationally recognized perjury unit.

Shannon M. Mick, 33, of Lincoln pleaded guilty to lying during a custody battle with her ex-husband. Mick denied allegations in a family court declaration in 2015 that she was subjecting her toddler to domestic violence at the hands of her boyfriend and that she drank too much.

Her statements were contradicted by her neighbor, a Sutter County sheriff’s deputy, who testified later that year that the boyfriend dragged her from their house by the ankles during an incident and that Mick appeared to have been drinking.

Mick recanted her earlier statement, denying she ever said there was no abuse or alcoholism in her home.

A judge found evidence of deceit, and prosecutors charged her with felony perjury. She pleaded guilty earlier this month and faces up to four years in jail when she is sentenced Jan. 29.

The perjury unit is said to be the only one of its kind in the country.

“We are committed to curtailing some of the falsehoods testified to in court in the criminal, civil and family law arena,” District Attorney Don Anderson said.
