A baby girl who wandered away from home Tuesday night was found by a Lyft driver in west Santa Rosa, and then police took the baby home safely.

Del Hedrick found the unaccompanied 18-month-old girl walking in the rain in the area of Liana and Biwana drives in the Roseland neighborhood about 10:30 p.m., said Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Jeneane Kucker said.

Hedrick searched a nearby apartment complex for the baby’s family before calling Santa Rosa Police to report he found the baby. A responding officer located the family and returned the unharmed child home.

“It was a total oversight by a babysitter ... not realizing the child was gone,” Kucker said. “Looks like an open-door kind of thing.”

No criminal charges are being considered in the case, she said.

Hedrick posted a video to Facebook of himself with the child in his Lyft car.

“Well, I’m dropping somebody off in this apartment complex, I found this little baby walking around, no shoes on, no nothing,” Hedrick says in the?15-second video. “Cops are on their way.”
