Man crashes, gets naked, then arrested on Highway101 in Petaluma
CHP officers used stun guns to subdue a 25-year-old Hawthorne man who had crashed a rented pickup and stripped off all his clothes Sunday morning on Highway 101 in Petaluma.
The northbound lanes of the freeway were blocked for 10 to 15 minutes while officers arrested Alexander Jon Leonard on suspicion of driving under the influence of drugs and resisting arrest. Leonard was booked into the Sonoma County Jail.
Shortly after 9 a.m. Sunday, CHP dispatchers received calls of a vehicle weaving and preventing other traffic from passing it in the northbound lanes of Highway 101 near the East Washington Street overpass.
The vehicle, a rented 2013 Silver Chevy pickup, later crashed into a guard rail at low speeds. Leonard, its driver, got out of the truck and began disrobing.
“After shedding all of his clothing, Leonard started running around in lanes of traffic,” said a CHP press release.
When officers arrived, Leonard resisted their efforts to arrest him, according to the press release. The officers used stun guns and took Leonard into custody. He was taken first to Petaluma Valley Hospital and then to the jail.
