A man was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital on Sunday after driving off a bridge over Sonoma Creek and crashing into a tree.

The CHP reported the crash at 4:50 p.m. Sunday off a bridge on Leveroni Road over the creek west of the town of Sonoma.

Sonoma Valley Fire Capt. Sean Lacy said the sedan crashed about 20 feet down an embankment on the west side of the bridge. The vehicle didn’t land in the water.

The man got himself out of the car, despite head injuries, Lacy said.

The crew of Sonoma County sheriff’s helicopter Henry 1 flew the man to Memorial Hospital.

The Napa-area CHP couldn’t be reached for details about the crash investigation.
