A man who lived in a residence motel in Lake County was found dead Sunday afternoon following a fire that consumed his apartment and damaged several other adjacent units.

The body of the man, believed to be in his 60s, was found ?inside a unit of the Lake Haven Motel in Clearlake Oaks. His identity was not immediately released.

The blaze at the two-story, cinder block and wood building was reported at about 1:30 p.m., according to Northshore Fire Capt. Dave Emmel.

“Three units sustained heavy damage and there was water damage in several others to the sides and below,” he said.

The fire was brought under control in about an hour with the help of other departments, including Cal Fire, Lakeport, Kelseyville and South Lake County Fire.

Emmel said the motel is used for long-term residency for low-income individuals and families.

He said that at least 25 people were displaced. They were being sheltered Sunday night by the Red Cross at the Highland Senior Center.
