Man's body found floating off Sonoma Coast

A man who appeared to have died days or even weeks ago was found floating in the ocean about a mile offshore Salt Point State Park on Friday, the Coast Guard said.

The man still was wearing a wetsuit but was badly disfigured, Coast Guard personnel said.

He carried no identification, Petty Officer Frank Carpenter said.

The crew aboard a commercial fishing vessel came upon the corpse around noon and alerted the Coast Guard, he said.

“They were kind enough to stay on scene until we arrived,” Carpenter said.

The body was recovered and turned over to the Sonoma County Coroner’s Office, he said.

No other information was available.
