News and happenings in Sonoma County towns

Find out how to help fire victims through Christmas trees in this week's update on Sonoma County news.|

CLOVERDALE

Christmas trees for fire victims

Cloverdale Nursery, 216 S. Cloverdale Blvd., is one of 10 North Bay nurseries participating in the “Lake County Gifting a Tree Project,” whose goal is to provide living trees to survivors of the Valley and Clayton fires who are either rebuilding or who lost their trees in those fires.

Owners Scott East, Gary Foreman and Ashley Porter have a good selection of potted Christmas trees from which to choose, including Douglas Firs, Blue Spruce, Green Spruce and Alberta Spruce. They are also offering a 15% discount on their regular inventory of shade trees for those who would prefer to give one of these instead.

Participation is easy. Simply buy a live, potted Christmas tree and return it to the nursery after the holidays. Project organizers will arrange to pick them up and take them to Lake County in early January.

Organizers stress that the project is a gifting program to help residents landscape their property, not a reforestation project.

Cloverdale Nursery is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mon.-Sat., and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sun. 894-6654.

SANTA ROSA

Coffee proceeds to help Gospel Mission

If there is a coffee lover on your holiday shopping list, not only can you treat them to a great cup of coffee, they will know your gift helped support an important ministry of the Redwood Gospel Mission.

RGM coffee is roasted through their Coffee Certification Program that helps men and women in recovery learn to roast coffee as a skill they can use to reenter the work world.

In addition, RGM connects with coffee farmers to establish direct trade relationships, ensuring the price they pay per pound will help them transform their communities by employing locals.
