Police: Petaluma man with blood-alcohol level four times legal limit arrested after crash

A Petaluma man with a blood-alcohol level more than four times the legal limit was arrested Friday after he crashed into stopped traffic on N. McDowell Boulevard, police said.

The accident occurred at about 3 p.m., when a Toyota 4-Runner driven by Ross Campbell, 31, slammed into the back of a white Toyota Camry. The Camry was stopped in the southbound lane of N. McDowell Boulevard, at the E. Washington Street intersection.

The force of the crash rammed the Camry into the rear of a silver Dodge Caliber sedan, police said. There were no serious injuries.

Campbell told police he did not see the stopped traffic because he was texting on his phone, but police noticed that he showed signs of intoxication. Police said Campbell was detained after he failed a street sobriety test.

At the station, Campbell did a breath test that came up with a blood-alcohol level of 0.33, more than four times the 0.08 legal limit, officials said.

Campbell was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of DUI.
