Fourth-generation rancher Loren Poncia of Tomales has been named Outstanding North Bay Rancher for 2013 by the Sonoma County Fair.

Poncia, a native of Tomales, was selected partly for his sustainable ranching practices, which have turned his family's century-old ranch into a successful grass-fed beef and lamb operation.

In 2007, Poncia and his wife Lisa started Stemple Creek Ranch. Most of their pastures and animals are certified organic and all their animals are grass-fed.

Along with his ranch work, Poncia has been a member of the Marin Ag Land Trust for 10 years.

He will be presented the award July 28 at the fair's annual Farmer's Day at the Chris Beck Arena. This year's fair will run July 25 to Aug. 11 at the fairgrounds in Santa Rosa.
