A head-on collision near Calistoga around 2 p.m. Saturday sent two drivers to the emergency room with moderate injuries.

Angelito Peries, 65, of Calistoga was driving a black Mercedes east on Highway 128 near Strebel Road and crossed over the center yellow line and crashed into a pickup driven by Deana Park, 50, of Hidden Valley Lake.

“They were coming around a curve and the Mercedes crossed into the westbound lane,” CHP Sgt. Erik Egide said.

Shortly after the crash, around 2:15 p.m., Clark Mason, 61, of Santa Rosa was injured on Hwy. 128 roughly seven miles west of the collision.

Mason, a staff writer at The Press Democrat, said he crashed his bicycle moving out of the way of emergency vehicles responding to the car crash, including the CHP and fire engines. His tire hit a rut, he said.

Mason, who was wearing a helmet, hit his head on the road in the westbound lane. Mason said his injuries were minor.

The two people injured in the head-on collision were transported to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, and Mason was taken to Kaiser Permanente Medical Center in Santa Rosa. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in either crash.
