A rollover crash in Lake County over the weekend claimed the life of a 35-year-old Oakland woman.

The CHP said the woman, who was a passenger in a 1996 Honda Accord, was pronounced dead at the scene of the Sunday evening crash on Highway 29 in Lakeport.

Her name was withheld pending notification of her family.

The driver of the car, Ioan C. Gruia, 31, of San Francisco, was flown to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

According to investigators, Gruia was driving southbound at an unknown speed on Highway 29, south of the Hill Road undercrossing, when he allowed the car to drift onto the dirt median. He overcorrected and lost control of the Honda, which skidded across southbound lanes, striking a curb and dirt embankment, the CHP said.

The impact caused the car to roll multiple times, slide down an embankment and come to rest on its roof on the frontage road.

Gruia and his passenger had their seat belts on, the CHP said. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor.
