West Santa Rosa gunfire wounds two, police find bullet-riddled car
Gunfire near the Coddingtown Mall late Sunday afternoon wounded two men and left at least one car riddled with bullet holes, said Santa Rosa police Monday.
The victims, 24 and 21 years, were taken to a hospital by friends. They had serious but not life-threatening injuries, police said.
The 5:45 p.m. shooting was outside of a strip mall at 1300 Guerneville Road, across the street from the larger, westside shopping mall.
Police suspect the victims are connected to a criminal street gang and that they’d gotten into a confrontation at the shopping area with another group, leading to multiple shots fired. The wounded men then were loaded into a car and taken for help, the other side fled and callers dialed 911 reporting gunfire and yelling in the area and people scattering afterward.
Police got a license plate of a car carrying the shooters, leading them to a home on Terry Road. Officers and the SWAT team surrounded the home and found a gold Toyota Camry parked in front, damaged from several bullet holes. Officers also found a spent shell casing inside, police said.
People inside the house came out and a search turned up no suspects. The victims haven’t cooperated with detectives and what the confrontation was about wasn’t clear, according to police.
Police are seeking help from the public on the shooting and are offering up to $2,500 reward for information resulting in the arrest and conviction of suspects. The reward money is part of a standing fund offered by Sonoma County Alliance.
Police asked anyone with information to contact detectives at 707-543-3590 and said callers can be anonymous.
