E. & J. Gallo Winery buys Napa's Pahlmeyer Winery
E. & J. Gallo Winery of Modesto has purchased Pahlmeyer Winery and two of its luxury brands, adding the boutique Napa Valley winery that specializes in Bordeaux-style wines to its portfolio as America’s largest wine producer.
The deal includes the Pahlmeyer and Jayson by Pahlmeyer wine brands, which range in price from $30 to $350. The purchase price was not revealed.
“Although it was a difficult family decision, we are confident that we have found a great steward that shares our vision for the future of Pahlmeyer and Jayson wines,” Cleo Pahlmeyer, president of the winery, wrote in a statement. Her father, Jayson Pahlmeyer, founded the business 33 years ago.
The Pahlmeyer family’s Wayfarer wines and Wayfarer Vineyard were not part of the sale. In addition, Gallo will lease Waters Ranch, a vineyard in Atlas Peak used by the winery, and will continue to operate the Jayson tasting room in The Village at Vista Collina Resort in Napa.
Gallo has made significant inroads into Napa County in recent years by purchasing the Stagecoach Vineyard, the Ranch Winery production facility and upscale brands such as William Hill and Orin Swift.
