Three GranFondo bicyclists were seriously hurt in two separate crashes near the Sonoma Coast on Saturday and were airlifted to a Santa Rosa hospital for treatment, the California Highway Patrol said.

Both accidents happened near the intersection of King Ridge and Hauser Bridge roads, about four miles from the coast northeast of Salt Point State Park.

Kristin Rossi, 43, of Hillsborough, suffered broken bones in a solo crash about 11:43 a.m. She was airlifted by REACH helicopter to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital.

A second crash happened at the same location about 1 p.m. when Janet Walker, 40, of Canada, lost control and collided with her boyfriend, David Edmiston, 48, also of Canada.

They both fell down an embankment.

Walker suffered broken bones and possible head injuries. She was airlifted by CHP helicopter to Memorial. Edmiston suffered broken bones and was flown by REACH to the hospital.

Their conditions were not available Saturday night.

"Weather played a factor," said CHP Sgt. Robert Mota. "It was raining pretty good, and the road was slippery."

Other crashes sent four riders to the hospital by ambulance with moderate injuries, Mota said. Their names were not available Saturday.
