Celebrate the Oscars in style in Sonoma County

If you want to watch the 89th Academy Awards in a little more lavish party setting than your own living room, it's not too soon to start looking at your options.

Food for Thought food bank will present “Academy Night in Sonoma County,” at 4 p.m. Feb. 26 at the Rialto Cinemas, 6868 McKinley St., Sebastopol.

You can watch the live Oscars telecast starting at 5:30 p.m., enjoy complimentary food and drink, compete for trivia quiz prizes and try to guess the winners of the Academy Awards.

KPCA 103.3 FM Radio, a project of Petaluma Community Access, will present “The Envelope, Please” Feb. 26 at the Mystic Theatre, 21 Petaluma Blvd., Petaluma.

Doors open at 4 p.m. and the live Academy Awards broadcast starts at 5:30 p.m. The program includes a champagne toast, appetizers, raffles and door prizes, with Tom Gaffey serving as master of ceremonies.

The Alexander Valley Film Society will hold a Red Carpet Evening on Feb. 26 starting at 4 p.m. at The Cloverdale Theater, 121 East 1st St. in Cloverdale.

The telecast begins at 5:30 p.m., and an after-awards, black-tie dinner will follow in the historic Bank Building. Barndiva in Healdsburg will present Oscars in the Gallery on Feb. 26 in the Gallery Bar + Bistro next door to the restaurant. The bar opens at 4 p.m., and service starts at 5 p.m. Guests can enjoy special cocktails and order off the French Country Dinners menu, which will offer a special Oscars dessert. If your interest in Academy Award nominees goes beyond “La La Land” and Ryan Gosling, you might want to take a look at this year's Academy Award-nominated short films.

The Rialto Cinemas in Sebastopol opened its run of the documentary short film nominees Feb. 10, and opens two more programs Friday, Feb. 17, one including the animated short films and the other devoted to the live-action short films. For a full list, go to rialtocinemas.com. Admission: $8.50-$11.
