Green Day performs biggest hometown concert at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum

Green Day played its biggest hometown show of the year at the Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum on Saturday, Aug. 5. The entire concert dazzled new and loyal fans with an impressive light show full of fire, sparklers and fireworks. The night kicked off with a performance from Catfish and the Bottlemen, an energetic British rock band who geared the crowd up prior to the East Bay punks more than two-and-a-half hour set.

Despite the size of the coliseum, Green Day connected with the audience on a personal level. Staying true to tradition, the band's performance began with an introduction by the ever loved “Drunk Bunny” (who's identity has been theorized for years and still remains a mystery). Also tradition, the band pulled a number of fans up on stage to perform along with the band, keeping the well-attended show full of intimate moments.

Though the concert included a number of songs off the band's new album "Revolution Radio," the Bay Area portion of the Revolution Radio Tour mostly consisted classic Green Day songs, including “Longview” and “King For A Day,” plus songs the band used to play at smaller venues such as Petaluma's Phoenix Theater and Berkeley's 924 Gilman Street music collective. Singer Billie Joe Armstrong even dedicated “2000 Light Years Away” on the "Kerplunk" album to early fans who used to catch the band at Gilman Street.
