Santa Rosa police were investigating what’s believed to be a gang-related shooting Thursday evening after two different gunshot victims showed up at Sutter Hospital shortly before 9 p.m.
The shooting occurred in the 2300 block of Lemur Street in west Santa Rosa, where responding officers found pools of blood and a bloody shirt in front of two homes in the area.
Scanner traffic indicated that two cars, a dark Camaro and a blue Honda Civic, may have separately dropped off victims at the hospital.
About a dozen police officers descended on Lemur Street shortly after the shooting, closing off the road as they focused on a house with a U-Haul in the driveway.
“I thought I heard fireworks,” said a resident of Lemur Street who gave his name only as Anthony as he watched officers work behind yellow crime scene tape. After the noise he said he saw a maroon Camaro accelerating quickly from the area.
“Then I saw one cop, then two cops, and I said ‘That’s no fireworks,’” he said.
No officer was immediately available to provide information about the incident.
Dispatch traffic suggested the driver of the Camaro was detained at the hospital after the injured passenger went into the emergency room, while the Civic was reported leaving the Sutter parking lot at a high rate of speed with several males in their 20s.
