A Humboldt County man is suspected of forcing his way into an occupied home Monday night on Banker Boulevard and taking credit cards, car keys and a mobile phone, then stealing the 2010 Infiniti car outside and driving to a Taco Bell, Ukiah police said.

Officers think Nathaniel Cady, 26, was the same man suspected of stealing a different car hours earlier and using it to intentionally hit a car belonging to his ex-girlfriend’s father. Cady fled the scene before officers arrived, according to a police statement.

Cady and the man’s daughter are no longer dating and Cady was apparently upset with her family.

Earlier on Monday, officers were notified of a reckless driver in a black Mazda at the area of Dora Avenue, a street that runs by Pomolita Middle School in Ukiah, at about 6:45 p.m.

A car with a similar description was reported missing earlier about a mile away. A man told police he recognized Cady as the driver of the stolen Mazda.

Police tracked the stolen phone north to Willits. Willits police eventually found the stolen Infiniti in a Burger King parking lot. Cady was arrested after officers saw him walking out of the restaurant. Police said he used the stolen credit cards to buy food from Taco Bell.

Cady was booked into the Mendocino County Jail on Tuesday on suspicion of several felony crimes, including two counts of taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent, burglary and causing criminal damages, according to online booking logs. He’s listed as a McKinleyville resident.

Prior to his arrest, Cady had a warrant for his arrest in Humboldt County for failing to appear at an Aug. 23 hearing for a burglary case, a clerk with the Humboldt County Superior Court said.
