Quarter-inch of rain falls across the North Bay

Dry weather was expected Sunday before another band of light rain arrives Monday night.|

The light drizzle and cool weather that arrived Saturday was a special gift to the North Bay from Mother Nature - barely a drop fell south of Marin County.

“For what it’s worth, no rain fell south of the Golden Gate. It was just a North Bay type of event,” said National Weather Service meteorologist Ryan Walbrun.

Walbrun said a low-pressure trough moving through the Marin, Sonoma and Mendocino counties late Saturday morning brought about a quarter-inch of rain to various locations, including along the coast.

More light rain was expected Saturday evening, but wet weather should begin to taper off by sunrise today.

“It does look like a dry Sunday for anyone with outdoor plans,” Walbrun said, adding that temperatures should range between the 60s and 70s.

The rainfall marked the first recorded precipitation in the region since mid-April, the Weather Service reported.

The forecast calls for dry weather through late Monday, when another light rain system is expected to enter the North Bay, Walbrun said. The main front will pass through between Monday night and Tuesday morning, bringing another quarter-inch of rain, he said.

“It’s a nice little rainfall to start the month of October,” Walbrun said.
