Woman arrested after fire destroys Sonoma home

A woman was arrested Monday in connection with a suspected arson fire that destroyed a house and a second structure in Sonoma. Sheriff’s officials said the incident stemmed from a domestic dispute.

The fire was reported just after midnight on Napa Road near Fifth Street East and drew a large response.

Sheriff’s officials are investigating the fire as a possible arson, spokesman Juan Valencia said, but the woman was arrested on suspicion of child endangerment, false imprisonment and resisting arrest.

“There is not sufficient evidence at this time to be sure if it was arson or to charge anyone with arson,” said Valencia, who added that the fire is still being investigated.

At least five vehicles were burned, including one late-model BMW parked on Napa Road. Two structures burned to the ground, including one home. The fire was out by 7 a.m.

Responding agencies included Sonoma Valley, Schell-Vista, Cal Fire, Kenwood, Eldridge, Gold Ridge, Sebastopol, Petaluma, Rancho Adobe and Lakeville volunteers.
