Four Bay Area men blamed their GPS for routing them to the wrong Kelseyville address Saturday night, leading a homeowner to fire his handgun at the strange visitors when they arrived at his rural home, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office said Tuesday.

Homeowner Trevor McAfee called the sheriff’s office at about 9 p.m. Saturday to report firing his handgun at four men who arrived in a “loud vehicle” outside his home. He told the men to leave but they refused, McAfee told deputies. The man said he fired his weapon a few times after seeing the driver point a silver revolver at him.

Deputies later found several bullet holes in the vehicle but no sign of any firearm or ammunition, the sheriff’s office said in a statement.

While en route to McAfee’s property, deputies received another call from a Lake County resident who said his friends had gotten lost while coming to visit him, walked up to the wrong property and were shot at.

The four men reported traveling from the Oakland area to meet their Lake County friend and said they “tried to use their GPS, but ended up at McAfee’s residence,” authorities said.

The men denied having a firearm and said it was not a revolver but a cellphone they displayed to McAfee, ostensibly to have him talk to their friend. No charges had been filed in connection with the incident as of Tuesday afternoon, according to the Lake County District Attorney’s office.
