A fire damaged an east Petaluma home late Tuesday night, displacing three residents and a dog, a Petaluma fire official said.

Firefighters found around 9:30 p.m. flames and smoke coming out the front of the Adrienne Drive home. Across the street, passersby were providing aid to one of the residents, who had suffered a medical emergency, Petaluma Fire Battalion Chief Mike Medeiros said. The resident later was taken to Petaluma Valley Hospital.

Firefighters had the flames under control within 15 minutes, Medeiros said.

The damage was enough to force the residents from the home. Red Cross provided them aid.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
