Guide to Sonoma County Easter egg hunts

The spring holidays are approaching, which means another round of hide-and-go-seek for the humble Easter egg, whether it be hard-boiled and dyed or, better yet, plastic and filled with jelly beans and Peeps.

From parks and churches to resorts and wineries, there are plenty of places in Sonoma County willing to fill your kids’ baskets with seasonal treats this weekend and next. Let the hunting begin.

Easter Egg Hunt at Presbyterian Church of the Roses: Starting at 10 a.m., kids are invited to the front lawn of the church to find colorful Easter eggs on the church grounds. The church is located near Montgomery Village on Patio Ct. There will also be activities in Bowen Hall. Find out more at www.churchoftheroses.org.

Annual Spring Festival and Egg Hunt: Hosted by the Petaluma Mother's Club, this yearly event takes place 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The day will include jumpy house fun, a petting zoo, crafts, face painting, and, of course, an egg hunt. Plus, kids can get a photo with the Easter Bunny. The whole celebration takes place at McNear Park, and the egg hunt will be separated by age groups. Kendall Cohn’s Easter Egg Hunt at B. R. Cohn: This free family event from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday includes face painting for kids and wine-glass painting for adults and an Easter Egg Hunt in three age divisions: 3 and under at 10 a.m., 4-6 at 10:30 a.m. and 7+ at 11 a.m. Breakfast bites will be available for sale from food trucks. 15000 Sonoma Highway 12, Glen Ellen. 938-4064, ext. 124.

Easter Egg Hunt for Tots at Howarth Park: This wildly popular hunt kicks off at 10 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. Saturday for kids 3 and under (maximum two adults allowed per child) and continues at 11:30 a.m. for kids 4-5 (no adults allowed on field.) Other events include baby farm animal petting, springtime crafts and pictures with the Easter Bunny. Bring your own basket. Glen Ellen Firefighters Association Easter Egg Hunt: This old-fashioned, free egg hunt starts at 10 a.m. Saturday at Dunbar School, 11700 Dunbar Road, Glen Ellen. If you’d like to help dye the eggs, stop by the Glen Ellen Fire Station after 2 p.m. Friday at 13445 Arnold Drive. 996-9266.

Easter Egg Hunt at Sugarloaf Ridge State Park: Kids 3 and older can visit with the Easter Bunny and hunt for eggs in a meadow from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday. There are three times: 11 a.m. for kids 3-5 (free), 11:30 a.m. for kids 6-9 ($5) and noon for kids 10 and up ($8). Meet in the campground’s Lower Meadow for the hunts. Easter at The Fairmont Sonoma Mission Inn: Back by popular demand, Monsieur “Easter Bunny” will host a traditional Easter Egg hunt at 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Hunt for the Hare at Safari West: Kids of all ages can enjoy brunch on Sunday, followed by an egg hunt and a cross-country “Hunt for the Hare” on the African savannah of Safari West. Peep Fling and Peeps Diorama Competition, plus Egg Hunt: The Rio Nido Roadhouse will celebrate “Peeps Through the Years” with a Peeps Diorama contest and a Peep Fling Competition at noon Sunday. Catapults must be safe and of original design, with no electricity, gas, explosives or compressed air allowed. For the dioramas, Peeps are available at the Roadhouse one week in advance.
