Windsor sisters Sara and Katy Tracy, both 18, have received the $1,500 Audubon Canyon Ranch David Bouverie Scholarship.

The 2016 Windsor High School graduates and twin sisters, who have participated in Bouverie Preserve’s junior naturalist Juniper program since the fifth grade, will attend UC Davis in the fall.

Their brother Nick Tracy won the scholarship in 2012. Katy will study cognitive science, and Sara will pursue biochemistry and molecular biology studies.

As 2015 summer interns at the 535-acre Bouverie Preserve near Glen Ellen, the sisters conducted field research, prepared scientific specimens and entered data from the newt count and other field studies.

“It’s a place where we were able to be ourselves, get excited about spiders and fungus and just really love science,” Sara said.

“Ultimately, the hands-on experience we received opened our eyes to a life in science,” Katy said.

The David Bouverie Scholarship Fund was established in 2009 with a $25,000 grant and includes more than 90 contributors.
