Fire benefit at grange

The Sonoma County Farm Trails, which cancelled its Weekend Along the Farm Trails event, has thrown its support behind the North Bay Love Fire Benefit from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, at the Sebastopol Grange, 6000 Sebastopol Ave..

The event will donate 100 percent of the proceeds to those who have suffered losses from the fires, including family farms.

Come for comfort, food

Several restaurants are opening their doors and serving free food to fire victims this week:

— -The Worth Our Weight Cafe, 1021 Hahman Drive, is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. through Saturday for people who need a place to eat and some comfort. “This is the only thing that is keeping me sane,” said chef and WOW founder Evelyn Cheatham, who is also bringing food to the shelters at the Presbyterian Church of the Roses and the Santa Rosa Veterans Hall.

— Zazu Kitchen + Farm will be open today, in Sebastopol at 5 p.m., as long as there is no curfew and offer free food for anyone who lost their home. 6770 McKinley St., Sebastopol.


Hana chef dinner

Ken Tominaga, owner of Hana restaurant in Rohnert Park, will serve an all-miso Japanese dinner at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 12, in Novato as part of Fresh Starts Chef Events.

The dinner costs $60 and is a benefit for the shelter and job-training programs of Homeward Bound of Marin. To reserve: 415-382-3363, ext. 243. Proceeds from the raffle will go to the Red Cross fire relief effort. The Key Room, 1385 N. Hamilton Parkway.


Authors at Copia

The Culinary Institute of America at Copia will present a series of author events through November at the downtown Napa campus.

Executive Chef Matthew Dolan of Twenty Five Lusk in San Francisco will demonstrate a dish from his new cookbook, “Simply Fish,” at 6 p.m. Friday Oct. 6. Cost: $30.

Italian cookbook author Rosetta Costantino will serve up an evening of Calabrian cuisine at 5 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, and sign cookbooks. Cost is $30. To register, go to
