Olive oil fest

B.R. Cohn Winery will host the 2017 Sonoma Extra Virgin Festival from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 4, at the winery in Glen Ellen.

The festival includes a Blessing of the Olives, sampling of olive oils and foods from local producers, cooking demonstrations, live music and more.

Cost is $20, with profits going to the Heart of the Vine fire relief fund. 15000 Sonoma Highway.


‘Kitchen Creativity’

Karen Page will discuss her latest book, “Kitchen Creativity,” with restaurant consultant Clark Wolf at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 5, at Copperfield’s Books in Petaluma.

The new cookbook, subtitled “Unlocking Culinary Genius — with Wisdom, Inspiration and Ideas from the World’s Most Creative Chefs,” reveals secrets and strategies from more than 100 leading culinary minds of today, from Dan Barber and Rick Bayless to Emily Luchetti and Joshua Skenes.

Page wrote the bestseller “The Flavor Bible,” with photographer Andrew Dornenburg. Forbes named that 2008 cookbook one of the 10 best cookbooks of the past century.

Mendocino Strong

The Mendocino Community will gather from 4 to 10 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, for a Mendocino Strong Together benefit at the Redwood Empire Fairgrounds to help survivors of the Redwood Complex fire.

The evening includes a tri-tip and taco dinner, music by Alex De Grassi, and a live and a silent auction followed by an after-dinner dance party.

Tickets available at all Mendocino Mill locations, Mendocino Book Co., Chavez Market in Ukiah, JD Redhouse in Willits and Geigers Market in Laytonville. Cost is $20 in advance, $25 at the door. Kids under age 5 get in for free.


Bar battle

The 11th annual Sonoma Bar Battle will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at the Sonoma Veterans Memorial Building at 126 First St. East.

Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door, with proceeds going to fire relief to aid first responders, service industry workers and the community. All first responders will get in free with a valid ID.


Gather and give

The Carneros Resort & Spa will host a Carneros Autumn Fest — Gather and Give at 6 p.m. Friday, Nov. 3, to benefit the Napa Valley Community Foundation Disaster Relief Fund.

The evening includes seasonally inspired dishes, outdoor games, live music and local wines, beers and spirits from Spirit Works Distillery.

Tickets are $125, at 4048 Sonoma Highway.


Russian River wines

The Russian River Valley Winegrowers will host a Single Vineyards Night at 6:30 p.m. Nov. 9 at the General’s residence in Fort Mason with proceeds going to raise funds for fire relief.

More than 30 vintners will pour limited-lot wines at the event, including pinot noir producer Kosta Browne. Tickets are $85 general, $100 for VIP access at 5:30 p.m.


SRJC cafe opens

The Santa Rosa Junior College’s Culinary Cafe reopens at 11:30 a.m. today, Nov. 1, in the B. Robert Burdo Culinary Arts Center across from the main campus.

The Culinary Cafe, which showcases meals that students prepare, cook and serve, offers lunch Wednesday through Friday until 2 p.m.

The menu includes seasonal salads, soups, sandwiches, pizzas, entrées and desserts. Reservations are recommended: 707-522-2796.

The SRJC Bakery also opens at 8 a.m. today, serving baked goods and coffee drinks in the dining room until 10 a.m. on Wednesday through Friday.

Fungus among us

Mushroom madness is sweeping the North Coast as the 19th annual Mushroom, Wine and Beer Fest in Mendocino County gets underway this month with a series of dinners, tastings, forays and cooking classes.

The region, which is ground zero for some 3,000 mushroom varieties, will host a wide range of fungi activities from Ukiah to Fort Bragg.

Key events include the Wild Mushroom and Winemaker Dinner on Friday, Nov. 3, with Graziano Wines at the McCallum House in Mendocino; a Mushroom Brunch at Pennyroyal Farm in Boonville on Sunday, Nov. 5; and a guided hike with mushroom expert Eric Schramm on Nov. 12 at Jughandle Creek Farm in Caspar.
