Two zebras from Safari West settle into new home at Oakland Zoo

Two young zebras from one of Sonoma County's favorite destination spots, Safari West, have made the move to the big city - the city of Oakland's zoo that is - doubling the number of zebras at the 100-acre park to four.

According to a zoo press release, the new males named Beaker and Bettlejuice were slowly introduced to their herd-mates, two females in their 20s named Stormy and Jumoke, and are doing "very well."

The pair was selected to join the herd because in the wild a natural herd consists of four or more zebras, led by a male stallion and, say staff, "introducing two younger males would be easiest on our older ladies."

The animals can be seeing daily from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the zoo's African Savanna section, 9777 Golf Links Road, Oakland. Find out more information at www.oaklandzoo.org.
