When a helicopter drops you off to make a powdery descent, or when simply touring backcountry slopes, a pack designed to assist with snow travel is essential.

The 12-liter Dakine Heli Pack is large enough to carry what you need for a day’s jaunt, but compact enough not to weigh you down, limit your movement, or get in the way while sitting.

The pack’s got a diagonal ski and vertical snowboard carry system, a fleece-lined pocket for your goggles, an external carry for a snow shovel, an insulated hydration sleeve (fits a laptop when you’re not on the slopes), and a rescue whistle attached to a sternum strap.

Waist and sternum straps help keep the load away from you.

The Heli Pack 12L also comes in a version designed specifically to fit women.
