Snag unusual plants at Quarryhill sale

If you fancy unique, there will be plenty of uncommon trees, shrubs and herbaceous perennials with more than 130 species available at the Quarryhill Botanical Garden's plant sale Sept. 22. The inventory includes several species of magnolias, maples, roses, dogwoods and camellias. Nursery Manager Samantha Myhre said the reason for the autumn sale is because fall is the best time to plant. Winter rains, she said, will help plants take root. Add some spice to outdoor space with ginkgos, maples

Wildwood Nursery is hosting a free talk on gardening with these showy deciduous plants Sept. 15. The talk will cover strategic placement of ginkgos and maples to add flavor and diversity to a garden without the fuss of extra maintenance. Hybrids and new varieties are designed for smaller planting spaces. They are excellent alternatives to native trees that can overpower a homeowner's garden. Workshop teaches how to make a succulent terrarium

This workshop, on Sept. 22, will teach you how to design an indoor living space for succulents. You'll get to pick from a huge selection of succulents, pebbles and mosses to create your miniature garden. You'll get your hands dirty, but there will be plenty of demonstrations and hands-on help for you.
