Oliver’s turns 30
Oliver’s Market will celebrate its 30th year as a Sonoma County independent grocer with a free celebration from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, in Cotati’s La Plaza Park.
The party will feature live music, vendor sampling, a kids’ area and a tasting of local wine and beer to benefit the Humane Society of Sonoma County. There will be food for sale from Oliver’s Barbecue and Deli.
Oliver’s Market was founded in November 1988 by Steve and Ruth Maass, who opened the first market in Cotati after operating produce stands around the Bay Area. Oliver’s now has four locations, is employee-owned and has more than 1,000 employees.

Medrich on flours
Alice Medrich, the First Lady of Chocolate, will give a demonstration class on baking desserts with non-wheat flours at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at the Artisan Baking Center in Petaluma.
This class will introduce flavorful flours, including rice flour, corn flour, buckwheat flour, oat flour and teff, as alternatives to the all-purpose gluten-free flour blends.

Domaine Carneros by Taittinger has announced the debut of its new Jardin d’Hiver, a conservatory-style addition to the terrace of the elegant chateau.
The glassed-in addition, featuring skylights and indoor-outdoor fireplaces, offers guests a warm space to enjoy wines while being shielded by the winds that define the sparkling wine region’s cool climate.
The winery also expanded its tasting experiences with “The Art of Sparkling Wine Pairing: Asian Bites with Bubbles.” The five-course food and wine pairing is designed to showcase the versatility of sparkling wine.

Cooking with Jessica
Jessica Battilana, author of the cookbook “Repertoire: All the Recipes You Need,” will share her simple yet elegant recipes during a hands-on class at 11 a.m. Sept. 22 at the Healdsburg SHED.
In addition to recipes like simple stovetop chicken and rice pudding, she will talk about the most important techniques in the kitchen to master before building a repertoire of your own.

Harvest with HANNA
Celebrate the season with the annual Harvest with the HANNAS Winemaker Dinner at 6 p.m. Sept. 22 at the HANNA Alexander Valley Winery.
The evening includes a vineyard and garden tour hosted by President Christine Hanna and Winemaker Jeff Hinchliffe and a farm-to-table dinner from Chef Heidi West of Heidi West Catering, paired with limited production HANNA wines.

Cowgirl cottage cheese
Cowgirl Creamery, now settled into their newly-completed Petaluma creamery, has relaunched their popular Clabbered Cottage cheese.
