A pedestrian was struck by a van and seriously injured near Santa Rosa’s Coddingtown Mall late Friday night, police said.

The accident, which occurred shortly before 9:30 p.m. on Guerneville Road near Cleveland Avenue, left the pedestrian with major head injuries, police said.

The man, whose name was not released, was expected to survive and remained in serious but stable condition at an area hospital, Sgt. Brandon Matthies said Saturday night.

The man was crossing Guerneville Road when he entered the westbound lanes and jumped in front of the van, Matthies said. He was not near the crosswalk.

“The pedestrian appeared to be at fault,” Matthies said.

The collision occurred outside the Men’s Wearhouse store. The accident closed Guerneville Road for almost an hour, police said.
