Sonoma County Sheriff's Office ups patrols for Memorial Day weekend

The Sonoma County Sheriff's Office is targeting popular Russian River beaches for extra patrols this Memorial Day weekend after a spike in years past of litter, drunken beach-goers and illegal parking.

Targeted beaches include those on Fitch Mountain Road, Del Rio Beach, Camp Rose and Steelhead Beach.

The extra patrol staffing will be in place this weekend as well as the weekends of Fourth of July and Labor Day. Deputies will target illegally parked vehicles, alcohol violations, littering and drunken driving.

In the Fitch Mountain area, homeowners have hired private security for the three major holidays, including this weekend, according to the Sheriff's Office. The security guards will report violations to law enforcement, according to the Sheriff's Office.
