Barn dance at Green String Farm
Barn Dance! On Friday night: Green String Farm hosts the Heifer International Barn Dance and Dinner from 5 to 9 p.m.
A simple dinner of chili, cornbread and salad will be served, with cookies for dessert and beer, wine, apple juice and sodas to drink.
There will be a presentation of the work of Heifer International, a global nonprofit organization dedicated to ending poverty and hunger and nurturing the planet.
The dance features Celia Ramsay, singer, songwriter, traditional vocalist and dance caller; she will be bringing musicians, including a fiddler, with her.
And it all takes place in a real barn. This old-fashioned fete tops the list for weekend events. How can you resist a dance caller? Shake out those old petticoats, find your trusty bolo ties and join the fun.
Cost is $30 per person, $20 of which is tax deductible. Kids 12 and older may attend with their parents.
Online ticket purchases have closed but you can pay at the door.
Green String Farm is at 3571 Old Adobe Road in northeast Petalulma.
The Whole Hog, Petaluma-Puerto Rico Style: Tara Firma Farms in Petaluma is hosting its first Memorial Day Pig Roast on Sunday from 3 to 9 p.m.
It's an old-fashioned farm fete, with Tara Firma's Shane Valentine providing the pasture-raised pig, roasted over an open fire, and guests bringing their favorite side dishes to share.
Guests should also bring plates, flatware and something to drink.
The pig, prepared Puerto-Rican-style, will be ready by 7 p.m. but there will plenty to do before then, including live music and simply hanging out.
Cost is $25 per person if you are over 12 and free if you are under. Attendance is limited to just 135 guests so if you want to snag one of the last seats, do it quick at tarafirmafarms.com, where you can also sign up to be a Pig Captain, which includes special privileges and a special hat.
Tara Firm Farms is located at 3796 I Street Extension but don't just show up. Advance reservations are essential.
