Stauffer named dean of SSU School of Science and Technology

Lynn Stauffer, who in 1994 became the first female professor in Sonoma State University's computer science department, has been named dean of its School of Science and Technology.

Provost Andrew Rogerson said in a statement that Stauffer emerged as the strongest candidate from a national search.

Stauffer, 47, has been interim dean of the school for about year. Her salary is $150,000.

She attended UC Irvine and earned additional mathematics and computer science degrees while working as a Ford Aerospace engineer. Her graduate work focused on efficient algorithms for data compression on multiprocessor computers.

Stauffer in a statement said she wants to increase SSU's ties to local employers and ready students to meet workforce demands.
