City council election filing deadlines were extended in six of Sonoma County's nine cities Friday when incumbents chose not to seek re-election.

In those cases, the filing deadlines were delayed until 5 p.m. Wednesday.

The only cities where the Nov. 2 council matchups are set are Windsor, Cotati and Cloverdale. Here is the status of the nine council races:

Santa Rosa: Deadline extended.

Mayor Susan Gorin and Councilwoman Veronica Jacobi are seeking re-election, but Councilwoman Jane Bender did not file by the deadline.

Twelve people had earlier declared an intention to run for one of the three open seats. Only four, however, had filed the paperwork with the 20 signatures required to get on the ballot.

In addition to Gorin and Jacobi, architect Scott Bartley and former redevelopment agency chairman Jake Hours had filed their papers.

That left eight other potential candidates who have expressed an interest in running but have yet to file. Three??? Rick Meechan, Hans Dippel and Thomas Easter??? have indicated they have decided not to run.

Petaluma: Deadline extended:

Mayor Pam Torliatt and Councilman David Rabbitt are both leaving the council to run for county supervisor. Two Petaluma residents are running to replace Torliatt: Petaluma Downtown Association president Jeff Mayne and Councilman David Glass, a public financing professional.

Six candidates as of Friday have qualified to run for three seats on the council, including incumbents Mike Harris and Teresa Barrett, retired fire chief Chris Albertson, retired business executive Ray Johnson, hospital safety coordinator Gabe Kearney and former Councilwoman Karen Nau.

Sonoma: Deadline extended

Eight candidates have taken out papers to run for three seats. Two incumbents are seeking re-election, Ken Brown and Steve Barbose, while Councilman August Sebastiani is stepping down.

Along with the incumbents, David Cook, president of Cook Vineyard Management, has qualified for the ballot. Tom Rouse, Fred Martin, Mike Gillaspie, Antoinette "Toni" Castrone and Jeff Shoemaker have filed preliminary papers but hadn't returned them as of mid-day.

Sebastopol: Deadline extended

Three people filed for the three open city council seats by the Friday deadline. Incumbent council members Larry Robinson and Linda Kelley are not seeking re-election.

Those filing were incumbent Mayor Sarah Gurney, Ron Basso, founder of a furniture store, and Maureen Shea, who is part owner of a hot-tub chain.

Dan Needham, an engineer, teacher and businessman and a member of the city's business outreach committee, and Colleen Fernald, an artist and sustainability consultant, have taken out papers but not returned them. They have until Wednesday to do so.

Rohnert Park: Deadline extended

Councilwoman Amie Breeze is not running for re-election.

So far, five candidates have declared their candidacies for two open council seats: Mayor Pam Stafford, Chamber of Commerce Chairman Amy Ahanotu, Planning Commission Chairman John Borba, former City Manager Carl Leivo and Fire Commander Jack Rosevear.

Cotati: The field is set.

Three candidates filed papers for the two open seats. Incumbents Pat Gilardi, a councilwoman since 2002, and Mark Landman, who was appointed to his seat in 2009, will run for re-election.

Former Councilman George Barich is attempting to win back a seat. Barich was recalled in 2009 near the end of his first year on the five-member council.

Healdsburg: Deadline extended

Incumbents Eric Ziedrich and Lisa Wittke Schaffner are not running in November.

Incumbent Jim Wood has qualified, along with recently retired Healdsburg Police Chief Susan Jones for the two four year seats.

Shaun McCaffery, a mechanical engineer, filed to run for the seat with two years remaining that was vacated by Mike McGuire, who was elected county supervisor in June. Schaffner is filling McGuire's seat on in interim basis until the election.

Cloverdale: The field is set.

The three incumbents are running for reelection ??? Joe Palla, Jessalee Raymond and Carol Russell.

Former Cloverdale City Councilwoman Gail Pardinin-Plass has also decided to run, along with Mike Maacks, an investigator.

Former Cloverdale Police Chief Robert Dailey is running for re-election as treasurer.

Windsor: The field is set.

Essentially, this is an uncontested race.

There are no challengers to the three incumbents: Steve Allen, Robin Goble and Sam Salmon.
