The man accused of abducting a woman at knife point on a darkened Forestville street and raping her on the El Molino High School campus was arraigned Friday on charges carrying a possible life prison sentence.

Detectives said David J. Kocalis, 24, of Guerneville was wearing a mask the night of Aug. 30 when he sneaked up behind the woman walking on Covey Road, threatened her with a knife and sexually assaulted her beside the school’s tennis courts.

He was arrested the next day after detectives said they identified a Porsche SUV he was driving on a school surveillance camera video. Police said a shrunken-head tattoo described by the victim helped with the identification.

Kocalis appeared in a Santa Rosa courtroom, where prosecutors filed a six-count complaint including kidnapping to commit rape, which by itself is punishable by life in prison with the possibility of parole.

He also is charged with forcible rape, unlawful acts of sodomy, forcible sexual penetration, making threats and assault. His bail is $1.2 million.

The judge ordered Kocalis to return to court Thursday to enter a plea and for setting a preliminary hearing date.
