Body of missing Santa Rosa man found in Russian River
The body of a Santa Rosa man who had been missing for five days was found Tuesday afternoon in the Russian River near Sunset beach, a sheriff’s spokeswoman said.
Search and rescue divers found Marvin Jones, 53, at about 2:45 p.m. in about six feet of water, 20 feet from the shore, Sgt. Cecile Focha said.
Jones, who left personal belongings, including his wallet in his car parked nearby, was identified by his physical description as well as tattoos on his body, Focha said.
An autopsy was scheduled to determine the cause and time of death, Focha said.
He had been missing since Oct. 22 when he last spoke to his wife by phone, Focha said.
The family waited until Friday before contacting police, and his car was discovered by deputies Sunday in the Sunset Beach parking lot, Focha said.
Deputies interviewed hikers in the area and a search began Monday morning, Focha said.
On Tuesday, a volunteer dive team and kayakers from the Sheriff’s Office combed the river for Jones. Also, authorities brought out four search dogs and were assisted by teams from Napa, Marin and San Mateo counties.
