Republican presidential candidates Donald Trump and Ted Cruz took their contentious relationship to Twitter Tuesday night engaging in a heated exchange about their wives.

After an anti-Trump group ran an ad on Facebook and Instagram in Utah featuring a decade-old picture of his model wife, Melania, from a GQ magazine photo shoot, Trump tweeted "Lyin' Ted Cruz just used a picture of Melania from a G.Q. shoot in his ad. Be careful, Lyin' Ted, or I will spill the beans on your wife!"

Cruz shot back, refuting the claim, calling the GOP frontrunner "classless." "Pic of your wife not from us. Donald, if you try to attack Heidi, you're more of a coward than I thought. #classless"

Cruz's wife, Heidi, is an executive with Goldman Sachs on leave from her job to help his campaign.
