Santa Rosa police arrested eight people Friday during an operation to find people with outstanding arrest warrants in DUI-related cases.

The arrest warrants were issued because people skipped required court hearings or violated the probation terms of a pending criminal DUI case, Sgt. Mike Numainville said.

Those arrested Friday could potentially face added jail time because of the violations, the sergeant said.

Special teams of officers gather to conduct these operations, called “DUI warrant sweeps,” throughout the year. Extra officers are brought in, and the overtime pay is covered by grants from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that are overseen by the California Office of Traffic Safety.
