A man who died April 25 when his vintage Jaguar struck a tree on the Mendocino Coast has been identified as Masahiro Inoue, 60, of Honolulu, a former high-ranking Yahoo executive, according to the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office and Japanese news agencies.

Inoue, a native of Tokyo, was a former chief of Yahoo Japan Corp., according to the Japan Times. He was president of the company for 16 years, the publication reported. Inoue previously had worked for SoftBank, which today is SoftBank Group, according to the Nikkei Asian Review. Yahoo and SoftBank formed Yahoo Japan in 1996.

Inoue was participating in the California Mille vintage car tour when his 1939 V-1 Jaguar crashed into a tree near the shoulder of Highway 128, according to the CHP. He was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle, the CHP reported. His passenger suffered major injuries.
