Paint, hide rocks ?all around town
Last summer, Suzi Schweitzer thought it would be fun to start painting rocks and placing them randomly around town for others to find. She had seen it done elsewhere and wanted to try it in Cloverdale.
The idea caught on quickly, sometimes with surprising results. For example, two different people who had recently lost the same dear friend found comfort in the purple rocks they each found in different parts of town on what would have been their friend’s birthday. Purple was her favorite color.
Schweitzer says it makes a great family project since kids enjoy painting the rocks as much as they enjoy finding them. There is no limit to the number one can paint and hide.
If you find a painted rock, you can choose to keep it and replace it with one of your own creations or re-hide it for someone else to find.
Free bag lunches for those in need
St. Peter’s Catholic Church, 491 S Franklin St., has started a St. Vincent de Paul Society. As part of this new ministry, they are now serving a free bag lunch with coffee, soup, and hot chocolate to anyone in need from 10 a.m. to 11:30 p.m. every Tuesday in the Parish Hall. In addition, clothing and jackets in a variety of sizes will be available from the free Clothes Closet. 707-894-2535.

Take a walking tour of the town
Windsor residents now have an opportunity to explore the history of their town on foot or online.
The Windsor Town Green, which was dedicated in June 2001, includes a historical timeline walk created with 44 engraved concrete tiles that chronologically depict Windsor’s history with symbolic images and texts. A Windsor Town Green Timeline Walk brochure explains the significance of the images created by nine artists.
The Timeline Walk began in the north area of the Town Green by the playground and ended near the Central Pavilion. The original concrete tiles have faded and become difficult to see and read over the past 17 years. In anticipation of a new Timeline Walk, the first 16 tiles were removed during the construction of the playground that was dedicated in March.
Spearheaded by the Public Art Advisory Committee, the Windsor Historical Timeline Walk was created and unveiled Dec. 3 by the Town Council. It shares the same historical images coupled with stories displayed on seven free-standing vertical signs installed along a path in the Oak Grove. This artistic rendition of Windsor’s history is presented on cured planks of redwood and includes interactive features.
Recent Windsor High School graduate Grant Sandwina used modern technology to develop a virtual online version of the Timeline Walk. In collaboration with the Windsor Historical Society and town staff, he spent 30 hours developing a website for his successful senior project.
The virtual timeline provides an interactive photo tour through 15 historical sites and events from 1850 through the 2001 dedication of the Town Green. Sandwina’s project was created in conjunction with the signage in the Oak Preserve of the Town Green. Together they offer a rich historical experience for a visitor to the Town Green or on the online Timeline Walk that is available at townofwindsor.com/virtualtimeline.
