Cal Fire: 4,658 homes destroyed in Tubbs fire

A preliminary Cal Fire tally of Sonoma County’s three simultaneous fires last month found the Tubbs fire destroyed 4,658 homes in the Santa Rosa-area, including Fountaingrove, Coffey Park, Larkfield and a number of rural neighborhoods.

Statistics also show the Tubbs fire burned 94 commercial buildings and damaged 23 more. It destroyed 897 secondary buildings, such as sheds and barns, and damaged another 63.

The fire now ranks as the state’s most destructive, and damage from Sonoma County’s three have made it the costliest in U.S. history.

The Nuns fire, mainly in east Sonoma County, leveled 639 homes and damaged 92 - including neighborhoods in Kenwood, Glen Ellen, northeast Sonoma and Bennett Ridge.

Outbuildings destroyed in the Nuns fire totaled 684, with 73 damaged. Thirty-two commercial buildings burned and seven more were damaged.

Sonoma County’s third major fire stemming from an Oct. 8 firestorm of wildland blazes was the Pocket fire, which burned in sparsely populated, rugged hills between Geyserville and Cloverdale.

In that fire, three homes burned and three were damaged while three outbuildings burned and one was damaged.

Cal Fire and Sonoma County officials have been compiling the damage.
