Candidates sought for city commissions, committees
The City of Sonoma is seeking candidates for openings on several city commissions and committees. The deadline to submit applications is 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Historical society gets grant to document fire losses
The Sonoma Valley Historical Society has been awarded a $5,000 preservation grant from the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
The grant will be used to assist with documenting historic local structures lost in October’s Nuns fire. Many historic properties were among more than 375 structures lost in Sonoma Valley during the firestorms.
Losses include an 1850s adobe that was the site of Glen Ellen’s first post office, a Wells Fargo stage stop on Dunbar Road and the 1860s barn at Glen Oaks Ranch.
“Organizations like Sonoma Valley Historical Society help to ensure that communities and towns all across America retain their unique sense of place,” said Stephanie Mills, National Trust for Historic Preservation president.
“We are honored to provide a grant to the Sonoma Valley Historical Society, which will use the funds to help recognize our shared national heritage.”
The post-fire update is critical to a multiyear, ongoing effort to document the history of Sonoma Valley’s most significant historic properties. Work began in 2012, spearheaded by the Sonoma League for Historic Preservation.
