Fire seriously damaged a southwest Sebastopol home early Wednesday, displacing five people, according to fire officials.

The Pleasant Hill Road fire was reported just before 4 a.m. and arriving Gold Ridge and Sebastopol firefighters found flames coming from the front of the house.

Firefighters held the blaze mainly to the family room, where officials suspect it started. But there was significant damage to the one-story home from smoke and heat, said Darrin DeCarli, Gold Ridge battalion chief.

The Red Cross was called to help a couple and their infant as well as two other people living in the house, DeCarli said.

Fire officials Wednesday were looking for the cause.
