One person died early Sunday in a solo vehicle crash in south Santa Rosa, police said.

Sometime around 1:20 a.m., officers responded to a reported crash in the area of Santa Rosa Avenue near Barham Avenue, where they found a vehicle with one occupant, apparently the driver, who died, according to Santa Rosa Police Sgt. Kyle Philp.

The 2016 Dodge Charger was engulfed in flames.

Witnesses at the scene told police the car was southbound on Santa Rosa Avenue when it went over the curb on the southwestern corner of the intersection and hit a traffic signal pole and a tree. One witness said the car was on fire before it came to a stop.

Shortly before the crash, officers had been on the lookout for a silver car in the area, Philp said.

No other information, including the circumstances of the crash or the gender of the victim, was available Sunday.
