Lake County crash kills Fortuna woman

The CHP said the victim crossed into oncoming traffic and caused a head-on crash.|

A 57-year-old Fortuna woman died New Year’s Eve when her sedan crossed into oncoming traffic on a Lake County highway causing a head-on collision, according to the CHP.

Donna Jean Farfan’s 2011 Ford sedan drifted across double yellow lines into eastbound traffic on Highway 20, hitting a 2017 Chevrolet SUV driven by Ronald Kern, 67, of Elk Grove. He and passenger Patricia Sholian, 63 suffered major injuries and were taken by ambulance to Sutter Lakeside Hospital in Lakeport.

The 1:19 p.m. crash happened near Harvey Boulevard. Farfan, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, died in the impact.

The CHP is investigating whether alcohol or drugs was a factor.
