A suspected reckless and drunken driver caused a four-vehicle crash early Monday on River Road, injuring six people and forcing the closure of the major west county route, according to the CHP.

Driver Eric Floyd, 47, of Clearlake was arrested on suspicion of drunken driving after the 6:30 a.m. crash, said CHP Officer Jon Sloat.

Drivers called 911 to report a reckless driver in a maroon Saturn a few minutes before the crash. Near Laughlin Road, just west of Fulton, the Saturn drifted into the westbound lane and hit an F-450 truck driven by Jeffrey Rogers Jr., 50, of Napa. Those two vehicles then hit an eastbound Toyota Corolla and 4Runner and the four vehicles blocked the road.

Floyd and passenger Corrie Reed, 27, were taken to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital with major injuries. Rogers wasn’t injured. Corolla driver Hermengildo Rojas, 54, of Guerneville and three male passengers were taken to Memorial with moderate injuries.

Rincon Valley, Windsor and Santa Rosa firefighters responded. Wreckage stretched about 200 yards along the roadway, said Rincon Valley fire Capt. Mark Dunn.

River Road near Laughlin Road was closed for almost three hours for the crash investigation and cleanup, according to the CHP. Investigators are determining whether Floyd was under the influence of alcohol and drugs.
